THE SUB-DIVIDED WHEEL OF PHILON - tympanon

The tympanon was a narrow construction, internally divided in eight or ten isosceles, which towards their external surface bore openings for the gathering of water. The water flew towards the aqueduct from respective openings (apertures), which existed in the summits of the triangular parts. It was mainly used to transfer water from a low height.
